your birth story – birth photography

A few weeks ago we celebrated Amelia’s 2nd birthday.  Her birthday is of course a celebration of her birth, but it’s also a celebration of my life as a mother.   I can say without a single bit of doubt that giving birth to our daughter was the single most amazing and life changing moment of my life.  I never imagined all of the emotions I would feel at that moment.  The pride I would feel for myself as a woman and what I had just done.  The admiration I felt for my husband and the heartaches I knew he would experience with a little girl in his life.  A love so intense for my daughter that it pained me; the love my own mother always had for me but she could never fully explain.

Those are the moments I want to capture.  I want to capture your expressions as you anticipate you’re little one’s arrival, your emotions as you meet him/her for the first time and the love that instantly fills your heart.  Those are the moments you’ll carry with you for the rest of your life.

I am so excited to announce that I am now offering birth photography collections.  I want to capture your birth, your story. For a limited time I am offering a complimentary newborn session with all birth photography collection purchases.   I will take a very limited number of bookings this year so please contact me soon for details!

Now for more good news…If you’re expecting a little one in January or February I will photograph your birth for free, yep you read that correctly for free!  I will also provide a black and white slide show of your birth story on a disc which you will be able to enjoy for years to come.  For a sample slide show please click here. If you want any prints or other products you’ll be able to order them through your private online gallery.

The only thing that I ask in return is that you clear everything with your doctor/hospital, that you get approval for me to be there and any guidelines you, your doctor or your hospital have regarding my presence.  I will happily sit down and chat with you and your husband about what to expect from your birth story experience. Please contact me soon as I will only be able to take a few births during this time period.

I look forward to capturing these moments for you, for your husband and for your little one to cherish for years to come.

And because I hate to blog without sharing a picture, here’s a picture of Amelia’s little sister or brother due in early July.

giving is awesome – joy

Joy is one of my favorite words and emotions.  My daughter’s endless laughter fills me with joy.  The love I share with my husband is inexplicably joyful.  The love I have for my art makes me giddy with joy.  Joy is contagious and something I want and need to share.

It’s the holiday season, a time for thanksgiving and for giving unto others.  To celebrate this awesome time of year I’ve joined up with other photographers in a campaign of giving called Giving Is Awesome.  This holiday season I’m giving away a complimentary custom portrait session as well as a print credit to ensure that the winning family can enjoy their art for years to come.  That’s not all…I’m giving the nominating family a complimentary portrait session as well!

It’s time for YOU to send in your nominations.  Nominate a friend or a family, someone who is facing hard times in their life, someone who gives selflessly to others and they expect nothing in return, some who deserves the gift of custom photography this holiday season.  Tell me their story, what they’re experiencing, and why they deserve this gift.

There are a few rules:

* You cannot nominate yourself and the person/family you nominate must sincerely be incapable of retaining my services.

* The nominee must reside within the Houston area or be willing to travel to the Houston area for their session.

* Please email their full story as well as contact information for your nominee as well as yourself to: info@kdloftisphotography.com

* Anyone can participate, you do not need to be a past client of mine to make a nomination.

* The session must take place between January 1, 2010 and June 1, 2010.

All entries must be received by midnight on December 23.

The winning entry will NOT be shared on my site, but I retain the right to share parts of the winner’s story.  I will review all of the entries and select the winning family (with the help of my own family) on Christmas Day. I have been asked, no, the winning family does NOT need to know who nominated them unless you’re ok with it.

The announcement of the winner will come the evening of Christmas Day!

My sincere thanks to all for opening your hearts in the spirit of giving this holiday season and for spreading the JOY!

Happy Holidays to you and yours!
